Prince George’s County Farm Bureau

About Prince George's County Farm Bureau

Prince George’s County Farm Bureau promotes agriculture and agricultural interests in Prince George’s County, Maryland. We develop, foster, and aid the social, educational, and economic interests of farmers and of agriculture. We aim to foster, assist, and cooperate with other agencies for the benefit of all farmers in the county. Prince George’s County supports a diverse agricultural landscape, including traditional rural farms, urban agriculture, conservation programs, and educational initiatives. Agriculture in Prince George’s County dates back over 300 years, with early settlers farming along the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers. Tobacco was historically a major crop, but its decline following the Maryland Tobacco Buyout program in 1998 prompted farmers to diversify into contemporary crops and niche markets, adapting to the county’s growing urban population and changing economic conditions.
